LINESVILLE, PA — April 30th — A four-hour training session on handling incidents involving lithium-ion batteries was attended by six members of the Linesville Volunteer Fire Department. Matt Sabini, a seasoned firefighter and hazardous materials expert with the City of New York Fire Department and The HazMat Guys, gave the presentation. In order to enhance public and firefighter safety during these situations, firefighters examined battery fire behavior, risks associated with thermal runaway, and response protocols.

The increasing usage of electric-powered equipment and rechargeable devices has led to an upsurge in lithium-ion battery emergencies, according to department officials. The Vernon Central Hose Company hosted the event, which was sponsored by the Crawford County Department of Public Safety.
