CONNEAUT LAKE, PA — May 1st — During National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the Greenwood Fire & Rescue Dept. 40 honored the life and service of William H. Schell Sr., a lifelong volunteer firefighter in Greenwood Township. In honor of firefighters who lost their lives while performing their duties and to honor the sacrifices made by emergency responders and their families, department members joined fire service organizations across the country.

Schell's commitment to community safety and fire service assistance is still honored throughout the department, according to officials. Every year, National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is held to remember firefighters who died while serving their communities and to acknowledge their enduring influence on the fire service.
