CATTARAUGUS, NY — 27th April — A rural water supply training was held by the Cattaraugus Volunteer Fire Department, with an emphasis on tanker shuttle protocols and drawing operations in regions lacking hydrant coverage. During simulated fireground operations, firefighters practiced setting up portable water tanks, drafting from static water sources, and maintaining a constant water flow. The positioning of equipment utilized during prolonged situations and communication protocols were also evaluated by crews.
In the region, where departments frequently rely on ponds, streams, and tanker operations during structure and brush fires, rural water supply continues to be an essential component of firefighting operations. Regular practical exercises, according to department officials, enhance preparedness, coordination, and effectiveness during mutual aid emergency operations.
