During a departmental exercise on April 30, Starksboro Volunteer Fire Department members received training on new vehicle extrication equipment.

According to officials, firemen rehearsed using spreaders and cutters that run on batteries and are intended to free trapped patients from cars after collisions. The department explained that the new tools replace older hydraulic equipment, eliminating the need for hoses and pumps while improving mobility and ease of operation during rescues.
