Palmer Fire Department personnel took part in departmental training on autism awareness on May 7.
According to officials, the training taught firefighters how to better communicate and connect with people during emergency situations, as well as how to identify and comprehend autism spectrum condition.
According to the agency, firefighters can better serve every member of the community with professionalism and understanding when they receive specialized training and ongoing education.
