HERMON, ME — April 15th — During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Town of Hermon Fire Department honored the dispatchers that assist with community emergency operations. According to department officials, telecommunicators work as the initial point of contact in an emergency by obtaining vital information, giving callers directions, and organizing police, fire, and emergency medical services. During active incidents, dispatchers also assist in keeping responding units and emergency command informed.

The critical role dispatchers play in emergency response operations is still acknowledged by public safety organizations throughout Maine. Firefighter safety, patient care, and coordinated response efforts throughout local communities are directly impacted by telecommunicators' calm communication, precise information collecting, and prompt decision-making, according to fire department leaders.
