Freetown, MA - Freetown firefighters partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to conduct a prescribed burn in a state forest.
Prescribed burns are a critical tool used to safely reduce accumulated brush and vegetation, lowering the potential for large, uncontrolled wildfires.
These controlled operations also contribute to improved forest health by encouraging new growth and supporting natural ecosystems.
The operation provided valuable hands-on training, allowing firefighters to observe fire behavior in a controlled setting and refine skills directly applicable to wildfire response.
Training alongside partner agencies also strengthened coordination, communication, and overall operational readiness.
Freetown Fire Department expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support proactive efforts that protect both the community and natural resources.
