Live-Burn Training Strengthens Skills and Readiness

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Newington, CT - Newington firefighters participated in an intensive live-burn training evolution conducted over an extended operational period at the department’s training tower.

Crews began with Vent-Enter-Isolate-Search (VEIS) operations, a specialized rescue technique used to access upper-floor areas through windows, isolate conditions by controlling the interior door, and conduct targeted searches for potential victims.

Firefighters were then exposed to controlled live-fire conditions, providing realistic environments that included high heat, heavy smoke, and limited visibility.

These conditions allowed members to refine fire suppression tactics, build operational confidence, and enhance overall safety on the fireground.

The training was successfully completed under the guidance of department instructors and officers, with strong participation from all members involved.
