Bangor Expands Fire-Based EMS Response System

BANGOR, ME — April 28th — For the first time in the department's history, four rescues are functioning as emergency response units. The Bangor Maine Fire Department announced the opening of a fourth manned rescue unit. Located at Central Station on Main Street, the new unit, Rescue 2, is manned Tuesday through Friday during the day. The extension, according to officials, is a reaction to the city's rising EMS call traffic.


New Fire Medic jobs, an EMS-only paramedic pilot program created with assistance from Bangor Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 772 and the City of Bangor, staff Rescue 2. According to department heads, the new rescue unit will reinforce Bangor's fire-based EMS system for the community and enhance response coverage.
