Campton, NH - Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue and the Campton Police Department assisted New Hampshire Fish and Game biologists with the rescue of a tranquilized bear cub stranded high in a tree.
Biologists had been called after reports that two cubs had been without their mother for several days. After assessing the situation, officials determined intervention was necessary for the cubs’ health.
Both cubs were tranquilized, and one was successfully retrieved, but the second remained approximately 65 feet up and out of reach.
Fire crews responded while clearing another call and determined specialized equipment would be required for a safe rescue.
A tower truck from the Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety was requested and quickly arrived on scene.
Using the tower ladder, personnel from Waterville Valley, along with a Fish and Game biologist, were able to access the cub and safely remove it from the tree.
The cub was brought to the ground and reunited with its sibling before both were secured for transport to a rehabilitation facility.
