Binghamton Recruits Complete Water Rescue Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Members of the Binghamton Fire Department's Recruit Academy participated in swiftwater and boat operations training on April 28.

The training concentrated on the difficulties posed by the city's waterways, such as the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers, which meet close to Binghamton's core. According to officials, boat operations are a crucial ability for firemen because the river system increases the likelihood of flooding and water-related crises.

During the hands-on session, recruits practiced boat handling, water rescue techniques, and operating safely in moving water conditions. The department said the training is designed to prepare firefighters for fast and effective response during water emergencies. Officials also recognized the work of both recruits and instructors during the exercise.
