SMITHVILLE, N.Y. — April 12th — The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department honored National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week by recognizing the efforts of emergency communications professionals and 911 dispatchers who assist law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services operations across the area. By obtaining information from callers, allocating resources, and keeping in touch with arriving personnel, dispatchers act as the initial point of contact during emergencies, according to department officials.
The event also brought attention to how crucial dispatchers are to responder safety and emergency operations coordination. Every year, the United States observes National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to honor dispatchers and communications personnel who operate in 911 centers and public safety answering points, providing daily support to local communities.
