FAIR LAWN, NJ — Members of the Fair Lawn Fire Department recently focused on ladder operations during a Training Tuesday drill, reinforcing essential skills used on the fireground.
Firefighters from Company 1 and Company 3 took part in a hands-on evolution centered on raising, climbing, and lowering ladders.
Ladders play a critical role at emergency scenes, providing access into structures, routes for emergency egress, and a means to reach rooftops for ventilation.
While truck companies are typically assigned primary ladder responsibilities, all firefighters must be proficient, as any member may be called upon to use them during an incident.
The drill was led by Company 1 Captain Rich Van Handle, who guided crews through the techniques and safety considerations necessary for effective ladder operations.
Ongoing training ensures firefighters remain prepared to operate safely and efficiently in a wide range of emergency situations.
