Westmere, NY - Westmere Fire Department members conducted training focused on safely responding to flammable gas fires, emphasizing the dangers of pressurized tanks exposed to heat.

Crews reviewed the risk of a BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion), which can occur if tanks are not cooled properly, leading to a catastrophic explosion.

The session reinforced proper tactics for cooling, scene safety, and hazard recognition.

With warmer weather approaching, the department reminds residents to practice propane safety by ensuring tanks are properly filled and keeping grills at least 10 feet away from structures to reduce fire risk.
