Hightstown Firefighter Ed Esch Dies After 70 Years of Service

On April 10, 2026, the Department Hightstown Engine Company No. 1 announced the death of Ed Esch, a career fireman who spent 70 years serving the Hightstown community.
From 1969 until 1975, Esch led the department in a variety of capacities, including executive and line duties. Additionally, he continued to be involved at the state level with the New Jersey State Firemen's Association, where he has been a member of the Registration Committee and a Sergeant at Arms since 1992.
Members recalled his meticulous attention to detail and dedication to keeping equipment ready. Up to his death, Esch continued to participate in department meetings.
His decades of service had a long-lasting effect on Station 41 and the Borough of Hightstown, according to officials. Funeral plans will be made public as soon as they become available.
