Controlled Burn Training Strengthens Wildland Firefighting Skills

Coventry, CT - Members of the Town of Coventry Fire/EMS took part in a hands-on training exercise alongside experienced personnel from the CT Interstate Fire Crew, focusing on wildland firefighting techniques.

Crews conducted a prescribed burn of a field, gaining valuable experience in fire behavior, control methods, and coordinated operations.

In addition to training benefits, the controlled burn improved land conditions by clearing dead vegetation, reducing excess fuel loads, and helping prevent the spread of insects and plant diseases. The process also enriched the soil, as burned plant material returned nutrients back into the ground.
