STOCKTON SPRINGS, ME — March 18th — Prospect Fire Department and the Stockton Springs Fire Department participated in ice rescue training. Crews received training on a variety of rescue techniques and tools used in cold water situations. In controlled situations, firefighters rehearsed victim evacuation, self-rescue, and the use of ropes, throw bags, and rescue boards.

In Maine, where shifting winter weather can produce dangerous ice on rivers, ice rescue training is an essential component of operations. During water incidents, departments can enhance coordination, communication, and safe procedures by working together. The training strengthens fundamental rescue techniques and promotes preparedness for seasonal situations. Units successfully finished the training and went back into service.
