Unity and Troy Fire Conduct Joint Wildland Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

UNITY, ME — April 9th — Together with the Troy Volunteer Fire Department, the Unity Fire Department trained on wildland fires using a controlled burn. Crews received training on brush fire techniques, such as safeguarding adjacent exposures, setting up fire lines, and deploying hose lines. Firefighters were able to monitor fire behavior and practice containment under supervision using controlled burns.

Rural departments frequently hold joint training sessions since wildland occurrences frequently call for several agencies and combined resources. Coordination, communication, and safe departmental operations were the main topics of discussion. The training enhances preparedness for brush fire response because springtime circumstances increase the risk of fire. Units successfully finished the exercise and went back into service.
