Chief Jay Lyon Concludes 35-Year Fire Service Career

WILMOT, NH — March 31st — On Chief Jay Lyon of the New London Fire Department's last day of service, the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department took part in a march. Chief Lyon served in the fire department for over 35 years, 18 of them years as chief. He oversaw department operations, training, and regional coordination of mutual aid during that time. Additionally, he continued to assist activities and regional collaboration as a lifelong member of Wilmot.


As a way to honor years of leadership and service, fire department processions for retiring chiefs are still a popular custom. Departments from the area took part to acknowledge his career and contributions. Chief Lyon's service and his influence on the New London town and neighboring agencies were acknowledged by the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department.
