Jefferson Fire & Rescue Trains on Rural Water Supply

JEFFERSON, ME — April 3rd — Weekly training sessions on rural water supply operations were held by Jefferson Fire & Rescue.

In order to replicate conditions frequently found in places lacking hydrant systems, volunteers practiced drafting water from a pond. Using natural resources like Damariscotta Lake, ponds, and streams, crews attempted to establish a consistent water supply while also reviewing tanker operations using equipment that could carry about 3,500 gallons.

The use of dry hydrants, which enable faster connections to accessible water sources during fireground operations, was another aspect of the training. These abilities are crucial in rural response areas where water supply needs to be manually established, according to officials.
