GREENFIELD TWP., PA — March 18th — A training exercise on pumping and drafting from a temporary pond was carried out by the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company, located at 10160 Station Road, North East, PA, in collaboration with Wattsburg Hose Company. The purpose of the drill was to improve water supply operations in places lacking access to hydrants. In order to simulate rural fireground circumstances, crews set up a small pond and used engine-mounted pumps to practice drafting.

Firefighters reinforced hose placement, pump operations, and water shuttle coordination amongst apparatus as they rotated through duties. For departments working in rural areas where tanker shuttles and other water supplies are necessary, this kind of training is still essential. Coordination between mutual help partners during protracted situations was another benefit of the session. After the exercise, the crews reviewed the equipment's performance and operations.
