Fair Lawn, NJ — March 31st — In order to stay prepared amid bad weather, the Fair Lawn Fire Department held an indoor practice as part of their "Training Tuesday" series.

Company 3 members concentrated on command and core engine company competencies. In order to reinforce a crucial step in establishing a water supply during structure fires, new firefighters rehearsed connecting hose lines to a fire hydrant using a training prop.

Other participants finished a communications drill that mimicked fireground command at the same time. While teams wearing SCBA masks built a small device, one firefighter, stationed in a different room, gave detailed instructions over the radio. The exercise focused on synchronization in low-visibility situations and effective, succinct radio communication.
