Hands-On Pump Operations Training Strengthens Skills for Orland Firefighters

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Orland, ME - Members of the Orland Fire Department gathered at the Toddy Pond Boat Launch for an evening training session focused on drafting, pumping, and hose handling using Engines 511 and 513.

Crews worked through key objectives, including pumping operations from onboard tank water as well as drafting from a static water source—two primary methods used during fireground operations. Training incorporated both modern computerized pump systems and traditional manual techniques, allowing firefighters to maintain proficiency across all equipment.

Additional evolutions included hose handling and nozzle operations, reinforcing coordination and efficiency. The department noted that the boat launch was temporarily occupied during training and expressed appreciation for the public’s understanding, as soft ground conditions required careful apparatus placement to avoid damage to the shoreline.
