Jay, ME - Jay Fire & Rescue conducted ice water rescue training in Wilton, focusing on critical cold-water response techniques. Crews worked through various rescue evolutions designed to improve efficiency and coordination in challenging ice conditions.

During the training, a department drone was also tested, showcasing its growing role in emergency operations. Operated by certified pilot Firefighter Noel Brown, the drone was used with and without thermal imaging, demonstrating its effectiveness in ice rescues, wildfire detection, and missing person searches.

With warming temperatures causing ice to deteriorate rapidly, the department emphasized the importance of ice safety awareness. The training also coincided with Cold Water Safety Week, reinforcing the need for caution around unpredictable ice and cold water conditions, which can remain dangerous well into warmer months.
