Shelton Fire Department Expands Hands-On Training at Demolition Site

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Shelton, CT - The Shelton Fire Department, in partnership with Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1, recently conducted in-depth training at a residential property made available by Beacon Point Marina ahead of its scheduled demolition.

The structure has provided a valuable, real-world environment for companies to refine critical firefighting skills, including search and rescue operations, hose line advancement, and roof operations. By working in an acquired structure, firefighters are able to train under conditions that closely mirror actual fireground scenarios.

During the latest session, members of Echo Hose H&L Co. 1 further enhanced the realism by utilizing a smoke machine, creating limited visibility conditions to better simulate live fire incidents. This allowed crews to focus on coordination, communication, and situational awareness in a more challenging environment.

All four Shelton fire companies are expected to take advantage of this unique training opportunity, strengthening their readiness and operational effectiveness.
