PUTNAM, CT — March 17th — New firefighters received ground ladder training from the Putnam Volunteer Fire Company, which carried out planned drills in spite of the rain. Members worked on safe posture and climbing techniques while practicing ladder carries, rises, and placement. Evolutions included operating at simulated building heights, securing ladders to structures, and raising one or two firefighters. Officers emphasized choosing ladders according to the type of structure and the circumstances of the occurrence.
According to officials, ground ladder work is still an essential fireground ability that supports access, ventilation, and rescue. Training in inclement weather enhances overall preparedness and helps members get ready for real-world situations. As part of their continuing training program, the session gave new firemen practical experience.
