Hudson, NY - Members of the Greenport Fire Department participated in a Stop the Bleed training session held at Station 1 and instructed by Olivia Keeler of the Greenport Rescue Squad. Following a brief presentation, firefighters practiced key bleeding control techniques, including applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using tourniquets.
The department has also purchased Stop the Bleed basic kits for all apparatus equipped with chain saws to ensure personnel have immediate access to lifesaving tools.
The Stop the Bleed program, developed through a federal interagency effort led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, teaches essential skills for controlling life-threatening bleeding during emergencies and disasters
