Standpipe Operations Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Pittsburgh, PA - Members have been actively strengthening their standpipe firefighting skills throughout the department’s first- and second-due areas. Training has included lectures, building walkthroughs, and hands-on drills at the township training grounds. Even in buildings without functional standpipes, crews successfully simulated operations using the truck’s basket to mirror real conditions.

During this period, the Elkhart Brass Standpipe Kit was placed into service, and the department’s high-rise racks were updated with Snap-tite Gladiator 1.88-inch hose and 15/16" Elkhart Brass smoothbore nozzles. These upgrades, combined with ongoing practice, ensure firefighters remain prepared for standpipe and high-rise incidents.

The department remains committed to providing the best possible service to the residents and visitors of Ross Township and beyond.
