FAWN GROVE, PA — March 11th — The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire Lieutenant Dennis "Denny" DeVoe, who responded to his final alarm on March 11, 2017, was honored by the Citizens Volunteer Fire Company. For many years, DeVoe worked for the City of Harrisburg and was renowned for his commitment to the fire service and the community he served. He was recalled by his fellow firemen as a trustworthy officer who encouraged response operations, training, and the growth of the department's younger members.
In order to honor a firefighter's service and dedication to public safety, departments throughout the fire service frequently commemorate the anniversary of their last alarm. Fire officials observed that paying tribute to former members serves to both remind current firefighters of the responsibility that comes with their work and to preserve the customs and ideals of the fire service.
