Multi-Company Drill Focuses on Vehicle Rescue Operations

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ — March 26th — Alpha Volunteer Fire Company Station 82 sponsored a vehicle extrication drill in which members of the Huntington Volunteer Fire Co., located at 1 Maple Ave., Phillipsburg, NJ, participated. The methods firefighters employ to safely extract patients from damaged cars after severe auto accidents were the main topic of the training. During the drill, crews rehearsed tool placement, vehicle stabilization, and a number of cutting techniques frequently employed in extrication operations using Rescue Engine 82-63 and Rescue 75.

To ensure safe tool operations and evaluate collaboration between rescue groups, firefighters alternated between several positions. Since fire departments routinely respond to incidents requiring hydraulic gear and coordinated collaboration, vehicle rescue training is still a crucial component of fire service operations. These kinds of cooperative exercises can improve alliances for mutual aid.
