Members Complete Important Driver Training in Ideal Conditions

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Gettysburg, PA - Members took advantage of the great weather to continue their driver training program, spending time behind the wheel and operating the apparatus in various controlled scenarios. The training focused on building confidence, improving vehicle-handling skills, and preparing operators for real-world challenges they may encounter on the street.

New Engine Apparatus Operators undergo a detailed training process that includes a minimum of 10 hours of day and night driving, operating in different weather conditions, drafting, multiple hydrant hookups, aerial apparatus supply, proper hose line pressures, and learning every piece of equipment carried on the apparatus.

Because each vehicle has its own size, weight, turning radius, and mission-specific purpose, no two apparatuses operate the same. This type of training ensures every operator is fully prepared to safely and effectively manage the unit they are assigned to.
