WINDHAM, CT — March 15th — The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), an organization that supports volunteer fire, emergency medical services, and rescue services nationwide, celebrated its 50th anniversary with members of the Windham Center Fire Department. The NVFC was established in 1976 and offers national advocacy, safety initiatives, training, and representation for volunteer emergency responders. The organization collaborates with federal and state partners on firefighter health and safety programs, attempts to attract and retain firefighters, and grant financing for training and equipment.
The Windham Center Fire Department uses its resources to support operations and professional development, and many of its members take part in NVFC programs. The accomplishment represents fifty years of work aimed at bolstering volunteer departments and assisting responders who serve their communities.
