WAKEFIELD, Rhode Island — March 30th — South Kingstown High School students enrolled in the firefighting program recently finished practical training with the South Kingstown Union Fire District. Rappelling and vehicle extrication were the two main rescue techniques covered in the course. Students practiced controlled rappelling techniques used in technical rescue situations under the supervision of firemen. Additionally, the course included basic extrication techniques and vehicle stabilization, which are frequently employed in auto accidents where individuals may be trapped.
In addition to introducing kids to the fire service, programs like the South Kingstown High School firefighting class foster situational awareness, teamwork, and practical skills. According to officials, the school's collaboration with the fire district encourages students to explore their career options and helps them get ready for positions in public safety, fire, or emergency medical services.
