World Down Syndrome Day Observed at Old Orchard Beach Fire Department

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — March 21st — In honor of World Down Syndrome Day, the Old OBFD honored Nick Watkins, a well-known and cherished departmental buddy. According to firefighters, Watkins has established himself as a regular presence at the station and is renowned for showing up with a smile, a strong work ethic, and a sense of humor that lifts the spirits of the crews.


Members characterize Watkins as someone who blends in well with the firemen, frequently cracking jokes and contributing to the pleasant atmosphere throughout hard workdays. He is now a well-known member of the department's extended fire service family thanks to his trips. Every year on March 21st, communities all around the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness, respect, and inclusion for those with Down syndrome.
