C-Shift Uses Vacant Building for Hands-On Ventilation Training in Sanford

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

SANFORD, Maine — March 4th — At the prospective location of the city's new Central Fire Station, C-Shift firemen from the City of SMFD finished their roof ventilation training. As Sanford gets ready for the next round of construction, buildings and trees are now being removed from the property. In between service requests, crews practiced vertical ventilation techniques in an abandoned former bank building on the property. During building fires, firefighters frequently used roof ladders, ventilation saws, and coordinated roof operations.

Firefighters can practice realistic situations while staying prepared for emergency responses by training on buildings that are set for demolition. These chances are frequently used by fire service departments to improve their ventilation skills, which help remove heat and smoke and improve conditions for interior workers working within a structure.
