Baltic Fire Officer Highlights Volunteer Shortage Facing Departments

Volunteer fire departments in many communities are confronting a rising challenge: fewer individuals are volunteering to serve, but emergency calls continue to increase.
Officials of Baltic Fire Engine Company No. 1 say the effects are already being felt inside the firehouse. The majority of calls are still answered by the same handful of volunteers, and as call volumes rise, departments are increasingly reliant on adjacent agencies for assistance.
Volunteering, according to fire service experts, involves dedication and training, which can disrupt daily routines. They do, however, mention that the experience teaches essential skills, fosters collaboration, and allows them to assist neighbors during situations.
Departments emphasize that volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, with roles available on both emergency scenes and in support positions.
Officials invite anyone interested to visit their local fire station, ask questions, and learn more about volunteer opportunities in their town.
