The Taunton Fire Department has received $23,158.34 from the Massachusetts Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2026.
The funds will be utilized to replace a variety of safety and monitoring devices used during emergency responses. The department will replace combustible and four-gas meters, a photo-ionization detector, and carbon monoxide detectors assigned to frontline equipment. The grant will also allow the agency to acquire ballistic helmets and vests for its employees.
Department officials stated that maintaining up-to-date detection technology and protective gear is critical for responder safety and effective hazard monitoring during events.
The department commended State HazMat Team member Lt. Kevin Lavigne and Administrative Assistant Kate Gover for their assistance in preparing and filing this year's grant application.
