Richmond Firefighters Conduct Brush Fire and Pump Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On March 30th, members of the Richmond Volunteer Fire Department Inc. conducted brush fire training, with a focus on truck operations and pump use during wildfire events.

Crews practiced with the department's brush truck, utility vehicle, and engine. The brush truck and utility vehicle are outfitted with skid units that incorporate water tanks, hose reels, and pumps, allowing firemen to reach deep into the woods where engines cannot easily traverse.

Training included driving utility vehicles through wooded areas, running pumps, and pouring water through hand lines. Crew members rotated positions to practice driving and pump operation. The engine used Rossitter Road Pond as a fill location.

The drill also provided members an opportunity to review pump operations with the department’s new engine while reinforcing safe vehicle handling during brush fire responses.
