March 30, 2026 — The Westport Fire Department has issued a public safety alert warning residents of a high fire danger across all counties due to dry conditions, low humidity, and windy weather. Officials reported build-up indices ranging from 12 to 19 and spread indices between 19 and 26, indicating an increased risk for fires to ignite and spread rapidly. As a result, all outdoor burning has been prohibited, and residents are urged to avoid ignition sources such as matches, cigarettes, and equipment that may spark fires.
Fire officials emphasized that current conditions allow fires to start easily and move quickly, posing a significant threat to both property and public safety. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to the burn ban until conditions improve.
