OTTER LAKE, NY — March 9th — In order to get ready for winter situations, Otter Lake Fire Department members trained in ice water rescue techniques. Firefighters tested rope-based rescue tactics, victim approach across ice, and flotation equipment use during the drill. Additionally, crews tested brand-new ice rescue suits that were just acquired thanks to a grant that provides emergency personnel with specialized rescue equipment.

In upstate New York, where frozen lakes and ponds can put people in danger, ice rescue training is a crucial component of winter readiness. Firefighters are trained to quickly reach victims while operating safely on shaky ice. Regular training and modernized equipment, according to department officials, help guarantee that crews are prepared for cold water rescue situations.
