March 2, 2026 — Firefighters from Bordentown Township Fire District #1 joined colleagues from Fire District 2 to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by visiting local schools and reading to students, trading their usual emergency gear for storybooks in a community-focused outreach effort. The on-duty crews spent the morning engaging with children through classic Dr. Seuss stories, promoting literacy while building positive relationships with the community’s youngest members. While firefighters are more accustomed to responding to alarms than reading rhymes, participants embraced the opportunity to connect with students in a fun and meaningful way. Department officials noted that initiatives like this not only encourage a love of reading but also help foster trust and familiarity between first responders and the families they serve. The event highlighted the department’s continued commitment to community engagement beyond emergency response, reinforcing that service extends well beyond the fireground.
