March 12, 2026 — The Hinesburg Fire Department responded to a rapidly evolving incident along Route 116 near Hollow Road involving a vehicle that had struck a guardrail and remained in the roadway. While units were en route, dispatchers reported a possibly unconscious driver inside the vehicle, followed by updates that the vehicle had resumed traveling southbound before turning back toward Hinesburg. Responding personnel continued along the route and successfully located the vehicle, bringing it to a stop in the northbound lane. As crews assessed the situation, the driver unexpectedly accelerated, lightly striking a firefighter before the vehicle was quickly stopped using wheel chocks that had just been deployed. Firefighters immediately secured the vehicle, shut off the engine, and removed the keys, preventing further movement. The firefighter involved was evaluated on scene and declined additional medical treatment, and no other injuries were reported. The driver was later transported by Richmond Rescue with a Hinesburg firefighter accompanying. Vermont State Police responded to the scene for further investigation.
