Chief Nicholas Chad Snyder, age 45, of Atlanta, answered his final call while at home Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Nick was born on June 9, 1980, in Dansville to Ronald Snyder and Judy (Kern) Clark. He was a 1998 graduate of Wayland-Cohocton Central School and earned his Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. Nick proudly served as Chief of the Atlanta Hatch Hose Fire Department and as Deputy Director of E-911 in Bath.
Service to his community was in Nick’s blood. He started his fire service in the Explorer program in Cohocton. For many years, he served as a fire investigator in Steuben County and dedicated countless hours to protecting those around him. He also once served with the Jacksonville North Carolina Fire Department and the Corning City Fire Department. Over the years, he held numerous positions within the Atlanta Hatch Hose Fire Department before being named Chief three years ago. He led with integrity, commitment, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Though Nick devoted his life to public service, his greatest pride and deepest love were reserved for his three boys. His world revolved around Evan, Brayden, and Kyle, whom he loved more than life itself. He cherished working alongside them in his wood shop creating crafts and shared his love for hunting with his Boys. Nick was often found outside playing football with his boys. And Nick never missed a chance to cheer or complain about his favorite football team, the Cincinnati Bengals.
Nick was predeceased by his sister Renee Snyder, his stepbrother Gary Clark Jr and his best friend, Kyle Ward as well as his grandparents.
Nick literally married the girl next door, Meaghann (Anger) Snyder on October 26, 2013, who survives him.
He is survived also by his sons, Evan, Brayden, and Kyle; his parents, Ronald Snyder and Judy (Gary) Clark; his parents-in-law, Robby and Kimberly Anger; his siblings, Matt Snyder, Jennifer Webster, Robin Samper, and his sister-in-law Emily Anger; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, fellow volunteers, and colleagues. Nick will also be missed by his beloved pets.
