March 16, 2026 — The Conway Fire Department responded to Kennett Middle School at approximately 11:50 a.m. following reports of smoke inside the building, prompting a precautionary evacuation of students and staff. Initial responding units, including Car 1 and Ladder 1, arrived to find a noticeable odor of smoke as school personnel safely evacuated occupants. Additional resources, including Engine 2, Car 2, Rescue 1, and assistance from the North Conway Fire Department, were dispatched to support operations. Crews located a smoke condition on the third floor and traced its source to a malfunctioning HVAC motor within the ceiling space. No active fire was found. Firefighters secured the system and ventilated the affected area to remove residual smoke. Due to weather conditions, students and staff were temporarily relocated to another facility for approximately one hour before being cleared to return and resume the school day. No injuries were reported, and officials credited the quick response and coordinated efforts of staff and emergency personnel for ensuring a safe outcome.
