March 20, 2026 — The Alton Fire Rescue Department recognized Firefighter/AEMT Cody Griffin as part of its ongoing “Firefighter Friday” series, highlighting his service, dedication, and connection to the Alton community. Griffin, who joined the department in March 2022 as a per diem member before transitioning to full-time status in May 2025, shared that his path into the fire service began after encouragement from a family member and quickly developed into a passion after responding to his first calls. Drawn to Alton for its diverse call volume and strong sense of camaraderie, Griffin emphasized that his favorite aspect of the job is building meaningful relationships within the community he both serves and calls home. Known for his positive attitude and sense of humor, he also noted his appreciation for forestry-related calls and his enjoyment of time spent with his family when off duty. Department officials praised Griffin’s professionalism and commitment, while he offered advice to future firefighters, encouraging continuous training and learning as the keys to success in what he described as “the best job in the world.”
