March 12, 2026 — The Barnstable Fire Department provided an update on the ongoing construction of its new fire station, highlighting steady progress despite recent winter weather challenges. Following a significant blizzard that impacted the region, construction crews worked diligently to clear snow, restore safe working conditions, and resume operations at the project site. Over the past several days, crews successfully completed critical foundational elements, including footings and foundation walls, establishing the structural base for the facility. Backfilling operations are now underway, preparing the site for continued development, while concrete block work has begun on key components such as shear walls and the elevator shaft. Officials noted that additional structural steel installation is forthcoming, which will further define the building’s framework and overall scale. The department expressed appreciation for the contractors and workers who continued efforts through difficult winter conditions, emphasizing that the project remains on track to deliver a modern, state-of-the-art fire station designed to support emergency services for decades to come.
