This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

HICKSVILLE, NY — February 24th — During a winter weather event, firemen staffed stations at the Hicksville Fire Department, located at 20 E Marie St., Hicksville, NY, to maintain storm coverage. Members at Station 4 conducted a combined fire and EMS training exercise during standby time. Crews concentrated on patient packaging utilizing a Stokes basket, a standard rescue equipment for transferring people from tight spaces or challenging situations, while practicing a scenario involving a downed construction worker.

While assigned to snow standby duty, the drill helped firemen and EMS providers keep ready. During the storm, members stayed on duty at all department stations for over thirty hours. Additionally, crews responded to other alarms during that period, including a mutual assistance response supporting the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department.
