Michael Gordon Marks Milestone Leadership Role in Freeport FD

FREEPORT, NY — February 26th — Following his recent recognition for his community service by the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, 3rd Assistant Chief Michael Gordon was honored by the Freeport Fire Department, located at 15 Broadway in Freeport, New York. Gordon, who has lived in Freeport his entire life, joined the department in 2013 and rose through the ranks via training and active service. He was chosen as Hose Company 5's captain in 2023.


In 2024, during the department's 150th anniversary, Gordon was chosen as the third Assistant Chief, making history as the first Black fireman to be elected Chief. His emphasis on firefighter training and fostering ties between the department and the community is noted by members. Gordon is still in favor of initiatives that promote public safety, leadership, and service across Freeport.
