March 19, 2026 — Members of the South Portland Fire Department traveled to Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin this week to complete the final inspection of their new 2026 Pierce Enforcer pumper.
The new engine is equipped with a 2000 GPM pump, 750-gallon water tank, and 25-gallon foam system, enhancing the department’s fire suppression capabilities. Following inspection, the apparatus will be delivered to Allegiance Fire & Rescue in Walpole, Massachusetts for final equipment installation and preparation before entering service.
Once placed in service, the new unit will be assigned as Engine 48 at Central Station, replacing a 2013 Pierce Arrow XT. The outgoing apparatus will remain in the fleet, reassigned as Engine 41 to serve as a spare.
Department officials noted the project as a collaborative effort and emphasized the value the new engine will bring in protecting the City of South Portland.
