Rush, NY — March 16th — Battalion Chief Todd Smith of Vigilant Fire Service Training LLC conducted a fire behavior training program for members of the Rush Volunteer Fire Department. A classroom review and a live demonstration of how fire responds to the introduction of ventilation and flow routes were part of the instruction. Firefighters discussed strategies employed during inside operations while observing smoke movement, heat conditions, and fire progress.
Firefighters can make safer decisions during fire suppression and search operations by having a better understanding of smoke behavior and ventilation impacts. For safe and efficient operations during structure fires, continuous training on fire behavior is crucial, according to the National Fire Protection Association. The workshop reinforced the practical information that firefighters utilize on the fireground, according to department officials.
